TOWELL HOUSE A BRIEF HISTORY In the early 1950's the late David Towell gifted a sum of money to The Towell Building Trust Ltd with the express purpose of opening a residential care home for older people of limited means. Mr Towell was born in Donacloney, County Down in March 1872. As a young man he moved to London and eventually established several successful tailoring business outlets. On retirement in 1946 Mr Towell and his wife continued their deep interest in social issues, contributing generously to a number of charities. They also decided to support the building of a residential care home in Northern Ireland and gifted funds to the Towell Trust which was formed to build what became known as Towell House. The Home was officially opened on 2nd October 1958 by the Lady Wakehurst, wife of the then Governor of Northern Ireland. Towell Ho
